Montgomery County is in the exact center of the state, within one to two hours of most of the state’s population. It’s an easy reach to Charlotte, Greensboro, and Raleigh.

Both Badin Lake and Lake Tillery on the western border form more than 10,000 acres of water. It makes for beautiful living sites, such as Uwharrie Point. Life here is like living in the mountains, with an easy commute to the workplace.

Uwharrie National Forest covers the Uwharries, among the earth’s oldest mountain ranges. Recreational gold panning is allowed in the forest.

The county is one of the largest equestrian destinations on the Eastern Seaboard and home to the only public land in the state that allows full-sized vehicles on OHV trails.

STARworks Center for Creative Enterprise, in the town of Star, ties the area directly to the nearby pottery community of Seagrove. Events such as Glassfest and Firefest draw thousands of visitors, while others come to take classes in glassblowing, pottery and other arts and crafts.
